I am getting ready to change my differential and transfer case (TC) gear oils for the first time in my '21 Sequoia 4x. Per my owner's manual, it recommends the Toyota Genuine 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent gear oil be used. Via forum search, most utilize a 75W-90 oil as it is much more readily available and cheaper in most situations.
As for the TC, the manual recommends an SAE 75W-90 gear oil. I know in the past Toyota has spec'd a much more expensive 75W oil to be used, but this no longer seems to be the case.
From what I have gathered, changing to the slightly thicker oil in the diffs is not a problem. But with regards to the TC, you should follow spec. That being said, it seems as if I would be ok using the same 75W-90 GL-5 gear oil in both the diffs and TC. Am I correct in saying this?
