Rear shock options

Hello all,

I recently ordered OME 885/862 coils and 90004/60020L shocks for my Sequoia (en route - have not received them). However, the 60020L seem to be back ordered and I am now looking at the 60071L and Dobinson GS59-685. My truck is stock as far as bumpers, etc. I've searched for comparisons on these two shocks for a stock Sequoia and can't find anything positive or negative as far as how stiff they are....just that they fit the length requirements. Does anyone have any information or opinions one one versus the other?

They look interchangeable. If you look at the deluxe kit on The website below it has the 60020L and the other OME lift uses the 60071L, both using the OME2862 spring. They have different collapsed and extended heights.

I am afraid the 60071L would make for a harsh ride without additional weight on the truck. I have only found one post embedded deep in a Land Cruiser forum that said the GS59-685 is a bit slower compression and rebound in comparison. I guess I just need to make a decision and hope it works. 1stgenoffroad.com is where I ordered my kit from. Josh is a fantastic fellow to work with by the way. The 60020L has been taken off his website and I couldn't find them anywhere else online. I'm just trying to find the next best option.

I had ome Ls on my 80 and hated them, very harsh ride when not loaded down. I heard nothing but good things about dobinsons from the 80 crowd. Have you looked at Boss? I have the 700# front coilovers and cannot tell the difference in factory ride. I still have the rear air springs with a moded bracket to level so have kept the stock shocks for now, but will go with them. I can't post links yet, but it's on toytecs website

The Dobinson GS59-685 just arrived today! I haven't installed then yet as I am still awaiting some parts that got screwed up in shipping. I am excited to see how they ride...they are definitely long.

I will post some pics when all my parts arrive and I get them installed. I've had a rash of bad luck with shipping but should all be resolved by next week. I think there are a couple guys who have posted (maybe on other forums) about using them on Sequoias. I can't recall any pics other than the truck flexing the rear axle. It may have had a spacer in there also. I always try to find guys with first hand experience since my budget doesn't allow for much experimentation.

Finally got my lift installed. Took it for a few mile ride down a pot hole filled gravel road to try and settle things in a bit. The Dobinson GS59-685 rear shocks seem to ride decent though my trip was limited.it was not harsh at all. Actually I didn't really notice anything...in a good way. I also left the rear sway bar off. I will try it off for a few weeks and decide if it need to be reinstalled. I'll get it aligned with the new wheels and tires this week (looks terrible with old wheels and tires). I think I am going to be pleased with this choice.

Hope your installation goes smooth. Some of those shock mounts can be a pain...look closely at my redneck engineering lol.

That's quite the setup! Mine wasn't too bad... I used a gear wrench on top nut and tied off the shock body with a ratchet strap so it wouldn't spin.

They ride well. I put on setting 6 to start with and with 4 kids in the back it rode great. I installed the toytec 700# coils up front last week and some extended links and so far I have enjoyed the ride. Yours looks great, I like the silver with black wheels

I'm going in for an alignment in about an hour and am a bit anxious after reading the endless alignment woes on every Toyota forum. I still have stock UCAs until next year...I decided to forgo my lifetime alignment at Firestone in favor of a shop that aligns a lot of trucks for a local custom 4x4 shop. We shall see. Be sure to post some pics of your truck done!

Hope that goes well. I went with the lifetime again at firestone, I developed a pretty good relationship with them when I had the 80 in there all the time after suspension changes. I do have to be very upfront and direct with them and still sometimes my steering wheel is off center so they have to do it again.. I have a build thread on MUD that is linked in the build threads here. 2005 build just didn't want to have to post everything twice. Not many active forums for the sequoia I am finding.

Well just got back. Left side rear cam was frozen. The tech was able to adjust the other 3 cams to make it driveable for now. It figures.

Your rig looks great. I would like to do something similar. A few quick questions if don't mind:

What size tires did you go with?

Wheel specs? Diameter, width, offset, backspacing?

Any wheel spacers needed?

What is the new measured height from center line of the wheel to the fender for front and back?
