Finally got my 285 70 17's and lift

After ordering some parts, waiting for some other things to fall into line, I finally put some Toyo AT's on the '03 I bought. Put ARB2862's in the rear and Bilsteins in the front with ARB 2885's. Had some spring compressor problems with the fromt struts, so I took it over to 4wheel parts locally where I bought the tires. Anyhow, after the tech had some hassles of his own trying to compress the spring, it turned out that the Moog strut was a replacement---with a smaller diameter coil that wouldn't fit over the Bilstein. Ended up ordering new top hats from the parts store and ARB 2885 coils up front after reading the forum here. The stock coils at the dealership were 254 bucks. Each. Unfortunately, the ARB coils were taller than the stock toyota coil and would get coil bound if put up on the 3rd or higher notch on the Bilstein according to the tech. Now I've got a bigger lift in the back than the front, but the tires still help make it look great. Pictures forthcoming.

Image of plastic trim rub.

I may either try to source some stock coils and sell on the ARB's, try to up the bilstein to the 3rd setting, or perhaps do a combo of Bilstein and a short spacer lift/level. Still stoked, but I also still have some work to do.

Here's a side shot of the '03 sequoia with Bilsteins on the second notch and ARB 2885's in the front with ARB 2862's in the rear.

Close up of the ARB 2885 spring and Bilstein. The tech mentioned I'd have little uptravel since the spring would get bound up if I went to 3 or higher on the strut. Not totally positive about that....

I have yet to get it aligned, but I need to get more forward in the wheel well to avoid clearancing things on the trail.

Running roughly 1 1/2" drop in the nose presently.

Also thought to mention that the Toyo tire of the same name comes in three flavors. P metric, LT, and Extreme. The spacing of the lugs change for each variety from small to larger even though they are all called the Open Country ATII. FYI

Thoughts about the stance, clearance or a favorite rear shock to go with the ARB 2862's?

Looks like my images didn't appear while hosted on google. I'll try another hosting site.

Thanks and I'm still interested in the best way to gain clearance at the rear of the front fender and shock ideas

Didn't work. Maybe too big files or try to put pics directly on this forum.

Turns out the Firestone shop couldn't get the camber bolts to move.... Looks like a job to get out of there. I'll start with pb blaster, move to bfh, and finish, if necessary with a cutting wheel. Alternately, since the truck drives and tracks straight and the camber is in the green, maybe clearance the wheel well with the hammer and get that pinch seam folded over, then secure the inner fender liner that's giving me the buzz when it rubs a bit further back.

A hole punch in the inner fender liner and a couple zip ties seems to have eliminated my buzz while turning right.

Even if I can't get my images on here in a timely fashion, after a lift and tires, what would be your next purchase? Sliders? Front bumper/winch? Rear locker? This is a daily driver and travel rig. Hoping to be able to do some Colorado trails next July/August.

I as well am planning on being out in CO (Breckenridge area) next July/August. Thinking about just throwing on some 285/70R17 on mine stock and run some trails in the Breck area, like Swan River, Montezuma, Saints John, Mosquito Pass etc. If there is another sequoia summit, I might to try to get in on that action as well.

Otherwise, in my opinion, a locker is the single greatest mod you can do. Makes life so much easier on the trail and the drivetrain. That being said, the sequoia apparently has a primitive version of what is now called A-TRAC. This is designed to be a substitute for a locker. I have not tested this on mine yet. However the A-TRAC system is prone to overheating with excessive use in the land cruisers.

However, it comes down to the cost. Is this rig your DD. If so, then I would highly recommend an ARB. If its not your DD, and cost is an issue, throw a lunch box in it.

If its a DD and you cant afford a ARB just yet, then my first purchase would be sliders. Bumpers can be easily fixed and/or replaced. Rockers are a little more difficult to get back in line if they get bent. If you have plans to replace the bumpers then, who cares if they get banged up.
