I have a 2007 Sequoia limited 2wd 4.7. My question is while i am driving under acceleration, i hear a noise coming from the engine bay. The noise sounds like roaring mud grip tires, but when i lift off the accelerator the noise stops. This only happens while i am driving down the road. When in park and i push the gas pedal and rev the engine, there is no noise. It seems to only happen while driving when engine is under a load. The engine idles smooth and the transmission shifts smooth. I am a bit lost with this one, after all i can't very well sit under the hood while it's driven down the road. Has anyone had this issue or knows exactly what this could be? My first thought is the clutch fan vibration causing it. I checked the clutch fan and it is not loose and spins freely when engine is off, so it isn't stuck. So any help would be much appreciated. Thank you so much.

are you sure it is under the hood ?

Have your rear end differential checked. Take to a differential rear end shop for a test drive. They will know right away if it is bearing noise or ring & pinion gear noise from the differential.

Just had my rear end differential built.....

I have a 2005 Sequoia 2wd.....158k miles.......just had my rear differential rebuilt by M.I.T. Drivetrain Specialists in El Cajon, CA ( San Diego area ).
Problem: howling ( whirling noise ) gets louder with increasing speed and gets quieter with decreasing speed.
Diagnosis: differentials bearing rebuild ( 2 carrier bearings and the 2 bearings for the pinion gear. ). The ring, pinion gear, and spider gears themselves were fine.
Bearings wear out. This is more common than you think.

Anyway, rear differential is as quiet as the day it rolled off the assembly line. Only problem was that it was a good chunk of money to fix. Great SUV otherwise.

Yes, I am guilty of never changing fluid the differential fluid.
