Cowling / Blower Fan Leak Fix
Duration: 1 hour
Materials needed:
Marine Silicone
M12 Socket
T20 Star Bit
Pliers
Did a little enhancement or fix to an old truck. I began to notice over the winter that when my blower fan for the A/C and heat was set on low it would tick like there was a card in the spokes of a bike wheel. So as I replaced that I noticed that a few of the screws were corroded like water had settled on them. I attributed it to the condensation of the A/C but that just didn't seem right. I then began to notice that after it would rain somewhat hard water would pool on my weather tech on the front passenger side. After a quick search on google I was led to a post on Tundra Solutions ( https://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/1gen-tundra/119783-03-tundra-water-leaking-inside-cab/ ) which stated that under the cowling where the screws bolt down had small rubber gaskets that have disintegrated causing the leak and they lead directly into the AC blower fan. Sure enough I removed my cowling and all of them had disintegrated gaskets. The TS solution is to place marine silicone in place to seal them. So that's what I did but I sealed the gaskets themselves too. I probably wouldn't do that incase you need to remove the cowling in the future but I'm sure a little elbow grease and time I could remove the silicone and reset them. We just had major flooding in Southern WI but now I have to wait for the tropical storm rains to make it up here to test it out. I will update when I get that information.
