How many miles on your tree? Any major issues other than general maintenance?

196k. Only major thing was the break booster and master cylinder pressure switches. $800 bucks later, it runs great and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country.
Annoying minor issue ... drive shaft spline sticks occasionally causing a "thunk" after a hard stop.

2003 w/ 240k. So far other than general maintenance, I've personally replaced the Radiator, Serpentine belt, Brake Master Cylinder, Driver Door actuator and thermostat. The previous owner stated that the timing belt was replaced around 150k (there's no sticker or anything to validate it, so I'll probably address that before the year ends.

2001 w/ 220k.

Just replaced the rear hatch handle last night. Replaced the torn steering column boot when I heard the ticking in the driver's floorboard. Replaced the power antenna motor.

It could stand to have a new clear coat applied, and I'm in talks with the local technical college to have it done.

The VSC/TRAC just started acting up, but it is a random and infrequent issue. I'll check the sensors one weekend when I have time.

The intermittent wiper setting is, well, intermittent depending on when it wants to function properly and when not. Might be the contact points in the stalk. Might just replace the whole thing.

177k on my 2004, no major problems. Until this past week... I had a mechanic replace my water pump, timing belt etc last year. A few months ago I lost my oil pressure signal, this past week my truck started hesitating on acceleration, until it finally lurched and died! Had it towed to the dealer. Found out the last guy had misrouted the wiring harness that runs to the crank sensor and oil pressure sensor, allowing the belt to eat through over the past year...

I just went through this! I'm the idiot that routed the harness incorrectly though... only found it after checking the crank position sensor when it wouldn't start. I had it die on the freeway too. Lots of fun diagnosing this one since it would occasionally start and run for a bit. I guess it hadn't completely severed the wire yet. Anyhow, back up and running!

Back to thread relevant info though...

I have 186k on my 2001, and it's running great. All in all, it's been pretty solid. I've done a fair amount of preventative maintenance and fixing things I messed up myself, but nothing way out of the ordinary.

The only problem I've had is the starter went out on me in my driveway and got to fight with those two bolts in the back. I was not happy with Toyota putting it under the intake mani, but it's pretty well protected there so I kinda understand.

Bought my wife a 2001 4X4 with 242k Jan 2017; just went over 261k. Had to replace major things replaced were the Yaw Rate sensor last year and the radiator about 6 weeks ago. Still runs and drives beautifully though. Small exhaust leak at manifold and one Cat starting to go but will be fixing myself this fall when it cools off.

Just picked up a 1 owner 2003 2WD with 243k on it. Got it for a great price as it needed work. (2) O2 sensors, rear latch Door lock assembly with door actuator, rear hatch window motor, front right door actuator, and front brakes replaced myself. Had a shop do the alignment and balance the wheels. But only $600 spent in parts.

It is my goal to see how many miles I can get out of these trucks. Both have been aways serviced by Toyota techs with previous owners. I honestly don't see myself owning anything else.

Oh yeah, I also have a 1994 Toyota Pickup that I've done alot of work myself. It's my gas saver!

Shoot, I forgot on my 2003 I replaced the valve cover gaskets. Not to hard to replace but considering the OEM ones didn't start leaking until 240k. I'm impressed.

I'm so glad I found this forum thread. It appears that I'd be safe buying a super high mileage Sequoia so long as I get the water pump and timing belt looked at.

Purchased a 2005 SR5 4WD from original owners in October 2018. Has 185k and I did the timing belt right after purchase. Otherwise general maintenance and running strong.

Just picked up a 2005 with 256k (now 258k after driving it home). It's in great shape but I will go through everything gradually, I want it to last a lot longer.

I just purchased a 2003 Sequoia. It has immaculate maintenance records. I do notice a very loud fan noise and am thinking my fan clutch is locked. I don’t believe the fan should be on all the time. What was your experience.

rack and pinion
Toyota recall for rust, they repainted frame

'02 limited with 215k, bought in '03, will own "forever!" Toyota reman transmission at 210k, water pump, radiator, brake upgrade kit, back window motor, timing chains on schedule...ready to start light mods as my camping car.

230k right now on 03 limited

150k seal busted, had to replace rack pinion and front pass axil
150-170k bunch ignition coils; thought i was driving my old chevel with 400
180k front seat tear in leather :)

i dont think you can really have any major issues with eng, trans etc as thy are solidly built for anothe 100-300k miles above mine.. unless you dont change the fluids

The wife and I just bought a 03 limited with about 130k on it. Single owner car, previous owner took really good care of it, only problem is it is an Ohio car so there is some rust on the frame. Just got the timing belt done to keep my mind at ease, and had to have the power steering rack replaced due to a bad leak that developed shortly after we brought it home.

All in all we've already spent some money on this car, hopefully it lasts for at least 5 years!
its will i bought mine with 100k had it 10 yrs another 130k did same with rack..

My 1st gen Sequoia purchased new in 2006, general maintenance that I do myself. Rear hatch handle is junk replaced it 9 times, I strongly suggest do not purchase or have Toyota do it. You will pay approx, $350 and the new handle is junk and will break again. I finally last week found handle manufacture who sells all metal with a cost of $21.50 vs Toyota stating all metal but the part that fails still plastic and $80.00. Installing is easy takes me about 1 hour. I have done timing/water pump, just replaced radiator due to hood latch rod fell out and punctured hole in the radiator. Replaced with OEM Denso radiator did not purchase from Toyota who wanted $400, Found on line $105 for the same exact OEM. At the same time, I replaced struts, shocks, rear hatch lift struts, new iridium plugs ( 1st time replacing original plugs ). All this was done with 270,453 miles and no complaints. I also purchased a new Sequoia in 2014 and it now has 100,000 miles. No issues. Major difference between 4.7- liter to 5.7-liter engine, the power of 5.7 is incredible. 2014 will absolutely fly with the 350 engine and with the power gas mileage not close, the 2014 5.7 gas tank will also fly to empty just as fast.
I purchased my first Toyota in 1987 a 4-runner and it was just as dependable and built with true quality like every Toyota. I have owned 2 4-runners, 1 2011 Tundra and the 2 Sequoia's and honestly never have I had an issue that was normal, self-inflicted or just one of those rare deals. Besides the rear hatch junk handle. Plus I have become one heck of a Toyota mechanic because I convinced my parents to become Toyota drivers and they own 4-runner and Highlander. My son is also driving a 4-runner so it was beneficial to become a Toyota mechanic even though my career was not a mechanic, it was Surgical representative for brain, spine and Pediatric trauma. Nothing close to under the hood and I must give credit to You-tube and the internet for teaching me about being a mechanic.

Toyota owner for life.

Just bought a 2004 Limited with 146K. The previous owner had a minor wreck on the driver's side front fender and door. When I get to around 45 mph there is a vibration in the steering wheel and a barely noticeable hum. Not sure if they replaced the hub/bearings when it was fixed or not. Other than that it drives like a dream and has no other issues. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Just turned 241,000 on my 2011 SR5 4x4. Runs perfect, shifts perfect, no leaks. All components original except battery, brake pads, hatch struts, filters and such. Great car, maybe a lifer!

310,780 Starting to get a small amount of blue smoke on start up after it sits for a day or more. Runs super strong though and still averaging 17-18MPG city.
